House Republicans pull out of January 6 Investigation after Speaker Nancy Pelosi rejects two Republicans who voted to overturn the election.

Liz Cheney rips House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for pulling out of the house committee to investigate the January 6 Insurrection saying, “The rhetoric that we have heard from the Minority Leader is disingenuous. The attack on this building on January 6th was the worst attack on this Capitol since 1814. It was an attack on our Constitution.”

Activists are mobilizing across the country for voting rights with Good Trouble Vigils, Texas Democrats schedule a week of virtual rallies, Black women’s groups meet over the weekend with Vice President Kamala Harris, and in Georgia the Senate holds the first field hearing in 20 years. John Lewis recognized that, “Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.”

Prisoners are used to gerrymander political districts for political advantage, even though prisoners are denied the right to vote.

Extreme partisan gerrymandering favors Republicans in 43 states. Partisan legislators are using prisoners who cannot vote to Gerrymander congressional and state district lines to gain an unfair political advantage. This is especially harmful to people of color who are more likely to be disenfranchised because of a prior conviction. Nearly half of the 5.2 million Americans denied the vote because of criminal justice have already completed their sentence.

The U.S. Supreme Court further guts Voting Rights Act while the Manhattan D.A. charges Trump organization with tax evasion.

In a 6-3 decision the U.S. Supreme Court further gutted the landmark 1963 Voting Rights Act by upholding Arizona’s voting restrictions that clearly target people of color. Also on the same day, Trump Organization and CFO Allen Weisselberg are charged with tax fraud in what appears to be an attempt by the Manhattan D.A. to pressure Trump associates to testify against Trump. All of this with the shocking action of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court vacating the conviction of Bill Cosby compels the obvious question: can we count on the courts to deliver justice for the American people?

Despite no evidence of fraud, new polls show that after the election, the supermajority of Republicans believed Trump’s Big Lie of widespread voter fraud.

Another study shows that nearly half of Republicans believe ‘it was appropriate for legislators in states won by Joe Biden to try to assign their state’s electoral votes to Trump.’ Trump’s radicalized base has set an unprecedented new norm for the Republican Party that openly rejects the democratic transition of power. Both current and future GOP lawmakers must embrace the Big Lie and conspiracy theories in order to appease their base and win their votes.

Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that the Justice Department is suing Georgia for passing laws intended to restrict ballot access for Black voters.

The right of all eligible citizens to vote is the central pillar of our democracy, the right from which all other rights ultimately flow,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland “This lawsuit is the first step of many we are taking to ensure that all eligible voters can cast a vote; that all lawful votes are counted; and that every voter has access to accurate information.”

Pelosi announces January 6 Insurrection Select Committee, Oath Keeper agrees to cooperate in conspiracy case, and a N.Y. state appellate court suspends Giuliani for lying to courts.

House Speaker Pelosi takes action to form a Select Committee after Senate Republicans blocked a vote on the negotiated bipartisan agreement. Other important developments include a member of the Oath Keepers agreeing to cooperate in the January 6 conspiracy investigation, and a New York state appellate court suspending Rudy Giuliani from practicing law for making “demonstrably false and misleading statements” about Trump’s failed attempt to overturn the 2020 election.

Voting rights, infrastructure, and the January 6 Commission have all failed to overcome the Republican filibuster in the senate. Bipartisanship in the Senate is DOA with Republicans united behind an election strategy of obstructionism and voter suppression to win back Congress in 2022. To save our democracy at home, President Biden must find a way to unite the Democratic Party.

Election experts, political insiders, and mainstream media all agree that “our entire democracy is now at risk.”

The GOP 2022 election strategy is to double down on Trumpism, conspiracy theories, and restrictive voting laws that disenfranchise black, brown, and younger voters. Former Republican strategist, Steve Schmidt warns “We are at an hour that requires people to wake up. Trump is powerful and he is a clear and PRESENT danger to our democratic society and national stability.”
