Trump's Day of Love
Trump is trying to rewrite the history of his violent January 6 Insurrection as he fights in court to keep the evidence from voters.
We all saw it live. Trump told his supporters to march on the Capitol telling them to, "fight like hell" or "you're not going to have a country anymore." And then for hours Trump did nothing as his MAGA mob violently assaulted capitol police, resulting in the death of 5 officers. Now Trump is fighting in court to suppress the evidence of his crimes, while continuing to lie to American voters about January 6 saying "nobody was killed" and that it was "a day of love."
A Private Criminal Effort
The Special Prosecutor details how "candidate" Trump was not acting in his official capacity when he "used deceit to target every stage of the electoral process."
A federal judge unsealed a redacted 165-page legal brief establishing the criminal case against Donald Trump. "Working with a team of private co-conspirators, the defendant acted as a candidate when he pursued multiple criminal means to disrupt, through fraud and deceit, the government function by which votes are collected and counted — a function in which the defendant, as President, had no official role.” The report establishes step-by-step that Trump's conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election "was a private criminal effort."
A King Above the Law
“With fear for our democracy, I dissent,” wrote Justice Sotomayor, joined by Kegan and Jackson. “Today’s decision to grant former Presidents criminal immunity reshapes the institutions of the Presidency. It makes a mockery of the principle, foundational to our Constitution and the system of Government, that no man is above the law.” The Justices noted that, “The relationship between the President and the people he serves has shifted irrevocably. In every use of official power, the President is now a king above the law.”
If You Like Criminals
As the courts try to hold Trump and his accomplices accountable for attempting a coup, his supporters are planning to install Trump as a gangster president.
It’s hard to track all the criminal activity surrounding Trump. Ten fake Trump electors in Wisconsin admit Biden won on the same day that 6 fake Nevada electors are criminally charged. GOP Speaker MAGA Mike is blurring faces of January 6 insurrectionists caught on tape to shield them from being “charged by the DOJ.” And in a town hall interview, Trump jokes about being a dictator and compares himself to Al Capone, saying “he was one of the greatest of all time, if you like criminals.”
"An Out of Touch Lunatic"
With special counsel Jack Smith proposing that one of his three trials occur during the anniversary of the Jan. 6 Insurrection, Trump is acting like an animal trapped in a cage.
The former president's latest Truth Social post reeks of manic desperation saying, “Only an out of touch lunatic would ask for such a date, ONE DAY into the New Year, and maximum Election Interference with IOWA! Such a trial, which should never take place due to my First Amendment Rights, and massive BIDEN CORRUPTION, should only happen, if at all, AFTER THE ELECTION...” Coupled with Smith finally getting his hands on Trump's twitter data, it seems like the special counsel has clearly struck a nerve.
An Unprecedented Assault on Democracy
Trump and six uncharged co-conspirators knowingly lied about mass voter fraud as part of a detailed plan "to remain in power," despite knowing he had lost the election.
The four-count federal indictment includes conspiring to defraud the United States, conspiring to obstruct an official proceeding, attempting to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiring against people’s civil right to have their vote counted. The indictment accuses Trump of orchestrating "an unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy.”
Trump's Army Convicted of Sedition
Four Proud Boys were found guilty of seditious conspiracy as part of the violent attack on January 6 to keep Donald Trump in power.
This is the third separate trial where jurors conclude that the January 6 Insurrection was an organized conspiracy to overturn our democracy. During the 2020 campaign, Trump famously told the Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by" during a nationally televised debate with Joe Biden. Then after Trump lost the election, he tweeted “Big protest in D.C. on January 6th” and “Be there, will be wild!” During their trial, the Proud Boys blamed Trump who told his supporters to “fight like hell” and then sent them to march on the Capitol.
Armed and Ready, Mr. President
The January 6 Committee votes unanimously to subpoena Trump for leading a violent insurrection to stay in power.
The violence on January 6th was an essential part of Trump's plan to stay in power. Trump's inner circle worked with white supremacist and militia groups to attack the Capitol and stop Congress from certifying the 2020 election. Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson said, “We have left no doubt – none – that Donald Trump led an effort to upend American democracy that directly resulted in the violence of January 6.”
Absolute and Unmitigated Liars
Army General Charles Flynn and Lt. General Walter Piatt are accused of lying to Congress about the long delay in sending the National Guard to protect the Capitol on January 6.
In a detailed 36-page memo, Col. Earl Matthews accuses the Pentagon Inspector General of trying to cover up the Army’s attempt to rewrite history and deflect responsibility for their delayed response to the January 6 Insurrection. Matthews calls out Gen. Charles Flynn and Lt. Gen. Walter Piatt as “absolute and unmitigated liars.”
THE ATTACK
The Washington Post publishes the most important investigative journalism this year: “The Attack: Before, During and After,” is an extraordinary investigation of the January 6 Insurrection and its aftermath.
“Throughout much of this year, a team of 75 Washington Post journalists has been working to produce a definitive account of Jan. 6 — its causes, its costs and its aftermath. The result of that investigation, a three-part series being published today, makes clear that the violence that day was neither a spontaneous act nor an isolated event.” - Washington Post Executive Editor Sally Buzbee
Trump's MAGA Mob Attacks Capitol
Trump summoned his supporters to a D.C. rally with false promises of overturning the election. At Trump's direction the mob marches on the Capitol to “stop the steal.” Led by organized white supremacist and radicalized extremists, the world watches in horror as the mob overwhelms the capitol police and ransacks Congress with chants of “Hang Mike Pence.”
