Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell told Republican leaders that Trump was responsible for the January 6 Insurrection, but then lacked the courage to take action.
In the days following the January 6 Insurrection, Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy told GOP colleagues that Trump was responsible for the attack on the Capitol. McCarthy even boasted that he would tell Trump to resign immediately, while McConnell said, “If this isn’t impeachable, I don’t know what is.” Unfortunately the top two GOP leaders in Congress lacked the political courage to publicly oppose Trump and refused to support impeachment.

GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy planned to tell President Trump to resign immediately following the January 6 insurrection and Sen. Mitch McConnell told allies impeachment was warranted yet their anger was short-lived, according to NYT reporting.
